All quotations are taken directly from the candidates' official websites: https://dougjonesforsenate.com/priorities/ and https://www.roymoore.org/Positions/, unless otherwise stated.
Doug Jones: Jones wants to improve the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and says "Health care is a right, not a privilege limited to the wealthy and those with jobs that provide coverage."
Roy Moore: Moore wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act. He believes "socialized medicine...will ultimately lead to loss of quality and affordability " and thinks "churches and charitable organizations should be encouraged to help the needy and poor" instead.
Doug Jones: Jones believes we must "invest sufficient resources to ensure that our educational system provides the skills, knowledge and tools necessary for our children to succeed in a 21st Century economy." He says that it is "unconscionable to talk about lowering taxes on the wealthy while cutting funding for education."
Roy Moore: Moore insists that the "federal government should not hamper the educational systems of the states." He encourages "charter schools, vouchers, tax credits, home schooling, Christian schools, and technical training."
On the Economy...
Doug Jones: Jones would like to "support the growth of small and mid-sized businesses" by streamlining regulations. He supports a "living wage" and "equal pay for equal work" regardless of gender.
Roy Moore: Moore advocates for a "reduction of taxes at all levels, and a need to reform the tax system by studying and implementing a flat tax."
Doug Jones: Jones supports Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and would support legislation to ensure that immigrants brought to the country as children would be allowed to continue working and going to school here as long as they have a clean record.
Roy Moore: Moore believes that undocumented immigrants and open borders are "a threat to our national security" and that "we should build [a wall] immediately" or "use our own military to protect our border."
On the Muslim Community...
Doug Jones: Jones has not made any public comments about Muslims specifically, but he has indicated that he will not tolerate discrimination of any sort, whether it's racial, religious, or otherwise.
Roy Moore: Moore has called Islam a "false religion" and stated that it is incompatible with American values. He believes that Muslims should not be allowed to serve in the military or run for public office. He has also said that the only thing Islam has done in America is 9/11.
Remember! Tomorrow's election will determine who Alabama chooses to represent us in the Senate. Our participation is vital to present the full picture of Alabama voters. It is especially critical for the Alabaman Muslim community to go out and vote. A big Muslim turn out in an off year election deepens our contribution to our state and magnifies our voice. Make sure to get out and VOTE!
See you at the polls!
