Ramadan Campaign Launch

Dear Friend,

Ramadan Mubarak (Blessed Ramadan) to you and yours!

Today, we launch our annual giving campaign with events scheduled at Friday and taraweeh prayers at the Hoover and Homewood mosques.

CAIR-Alabama is the state's only Muslim civil liberties organization. While it is a chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR-AL is an independent nonprofit organization. We rely on the generous contributions of the community to help us stand up for the civil rights of Alabama's Muslims, and to stand up for justice for all.

Here's some of what your contributions in the past year have allowed us to do:

  • Civil Rights: CAIR-Alabama has offered free legal help on issues such as hate crimes, FBI visits, travel delays, employment discrimination, and school bullying--over 50 cases in the last year. After Muslim Ban 2.0, with coalition partners, we succeeded in challenging Governor Bentley's refusal to accept Syrian refugees. We also stood up for the constitutional right of Muslim women to get their driver's license photos taken in a hijab, and won.

  • Media: After the Muslim Ban, CAIR-Alabama gathered civil rights leaders and Birmingham's mayor at a press conference that was covered by major news outlets. On an ongoing basis, we work to ensure that authentic Muslim voices are heard in Alabama's media.

  • Civic Engagement: We mobilized a large-scale voter registration campaign, and prepared voters so that they knew what to expect on the ballot. For the second year in a row, we led the state's only delegation to National Muslim Advocacy Day in D.C. to meet with our congressional offices.

  • Education: From Know Your Rights workshops for our community, to diversity training for employers to help ensure they treat Muslim employees fairly, we conducted educational sessions on a regular basis.

  • Advocacy: CAIR-Alabama facilitated mosque safety trainings with the Department of Justice. We coordinated the response to mosque break-ins and violent threats with the media and law enforcement.

Will you help us reach our Ramadan goal of $85,000 and sustain this crucial work?

With your donation CAIR-Alabama will be able to:

  • Grow our legal team so that we're able to handle more cases: We currently receive many more cases than our capacity allows us to handle.

  • Hold more "Know Your Rights" and "Islam 101" sessions across Alabama

  • Conduct youth leadership seminars to ensure this promising generation is informed and civically engaged

  • Organize Alabama's first Muslim Hill Day and lead a delegation to our own legislature right here in Montgomery

and much more.

Please visit our secure website at  cairalabama.org/make-a-donation to make a zakat eligible and tax deductible donation. Our Tax ID is 47-5083518.

Consider becoming a champion of justice by making a recurring monthly donation. Invest in your civil rights year round. Our goal is to recruit 100 monthly donors by the end of 2017. Help us start strong this Ramadan.

Please also forward this email to family and friends. Post it on social media (use the link at the top of this email). Together we can reach our goal of $85,000.

Thank you for your support. It is what allows CAIR-Alabama to do its important work.

In solidarity,

Your team at CAIR-Alabama
