Join us this Thursday, July 27, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at 16th Street Baptist Church, to hear firsthand from Birmingham mayoral candidates, and:
Hear their vision for a city that includes and values all people
Discover what they plan to do for access and inclusion
Help candidates understand the needs of all segments of the community
This forum is hosted by #StandAsOne, a non-partisan coalition of faith, civic, and social justice organizations committed to rapid, unified, and coordinated response to the urgent needs of the community.
The format will include opening comments by participating candidates, followed by questions for the candidates reflecting the needs of the community. Submit questions by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why is it so important to attend?
Good representation by Muslims at events such as this one gets the attention of candidates and elected officials. It is one of the best ways for us to keep them accountable to our community. When candidates know that we can have a real effect on the vote, they pay attention.
In addition, this is an opportunity to ask the candidates about issues that are important to our community. For example, given the recent vandalism to a Muslim family, we will be asking about Islamophobia in Alabama and what these candidates plan to do about it.
Finally, Birmingham is a city whose policies and governance extend far beyond its boundaries. Regardless of where you live in the state, this forum is likely relevant to you.
Please make plans to attend, and bring a friend with you.
