[Birmingham, AL] -- On Saturday, June 30th, Birmingham residents will rally at Kelly Ingram Park as part of the Families Belong Together national day of action to protest the Trump Administration’s policy of forcibly separating children from their parents, the detention of families, and the Trump Administration's Muslim Ban which is also keeping families apart.

DATE: Saturday, June 30th
TIME: 4:00pm
LOCATION: Kelly Ingram Park

ORGANIZATIONS SPEAKING WILL INCLUDE: Alabama Coaltion for Immigrant Justice (ACIJ), Hispanic Interest Coalition Alabama (HICA), Adelante Alabama Worker Center, and Council on American-Islamic Relations Alabama (CAIR-AL).

The Birmingham protest is part of a National “Families Belong Together” Day of Action featuring more than 710 events in all 50 states and an anchor protest in Lafayette Square in Washington DC. In Alabama, rallies will be held in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Mobile. CAIR-Alabama will be speaking at the ones in Birmingham and Montgomery.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate across the country. Specifically, the protesters will demand that the Trump Administration:

  • Reunite families now. Permanently end family separation and immediately reunify those that have been separated. ICE must release parents immediately so that ORR can reunify them with their children.

  • End family detention. Children and families deserve due process, not indefinite imprisonment. Children do not belong in baby cages and internment-like camps. Family incarceration is not the solution to family separation.

  • End ‘Zero Humanity.’ Reverse the Trump administration’s policy that created this crisis and chaos to begin with. Parents should not be criminally prosecuted for doing what all parents do, which is bring their children to safety. This horrible nightmare for families will only end when Trump permanently stops his 100% prosecution policy.

CAIR-Alabama is the state chapter of America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutual.
